On Sunday, January 4, 2026, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, the great feast marking the manifestation of Jesus Christ to the world. The word epiphany comes from the Greek epiphania, meaning “manifestation” or “revelation.” Central to the feast is the visit of the Magi — wise men from the East — who followed the star to adore the newborn King, bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh that signify Jesus’ kingship, divinity, and redemptive mission. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God, and Savior of the world.” The feast also embraces His baptism in the Jordan and the miracle at Cana, affirming the universal call to salvation and Christ’s revelation to all nations. As a Solemnity — the highest-ranking feast in the Roman Rite liturgical calendar — Epiphany stands with Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost in honoring essential mysteries of faith. Wikipedia

Traditional Significance:
For Catholics throughout history, Epiphany is more than a historical remembrance; it is a call to seek Christ earnestly, just as the Magi did. In older devotional practice, the Christmas season traditionally extends through Epiphany and culminates with Candlemas on February 2. Seton Shrine

The Most Holy Name of Jesus

Following Epiphany, the Most Holy Name of Jesus is honored in early January. This devotion reflects on the name Jesus entrusted by the angel to Mary and Joseph, underscoring His identity as Savior, Lord, and God-with-us — a name above all names (cf. Philippians 2:9–11). January has long been traditionally dedicated to meditating on the Holy Name of Jesus, especially in older Catholic piety. Wikipedia

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (Feast: January 4)

Also remembered on January 4 is Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774–1821), the first native-born American canonized a saint and foundress of the Sisters of Charity in the United States. A convert to the Catholic faith, she pioneered Catholic education in America, founding the first parish school system and an orphanage, giving enduring witness to faith lived in service. Her life — one of ardent faith amid hardship — inspires Catholics to seek Christ in daily service and to follow Him with courage. Her feast complements the Epiphany season by reminding us that every encounter with Christ calls for generous discipleship. Diocese of Portland

How to Celebrate Epiphany

Epiphany invites the faithful to reflect on what it means to seek and worship Christ:

  • Attend Mass and meditate on the manifestation of Christ to the nations.
  • Pray with Scripture, especially the account of the Magi in Matthew 2:1–12.
  • Bless your home with the traditional Epiphany blessing (e.g., chalking the doorway).
  • Offer your own gifts — faith, hope, and love — back to the Lord who gives Himself completely.

  1. Hello and God bless!
New pages will be up every Friday until I reach the full 30 pages. On the 9th I will upload the 1st 3 pages of the comic. Thank you for supporting my webcomic, Veritas: Sword of the Spirit, a comic based on scripture with the armor of God turned into actual weapons to fight evil. The foundation of the comic is based on scripture but so much more.

The scripture I reference is: Ephesians 6:10-17 10 Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. 11 Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. 13 Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. 14 So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, 15 and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all [the] flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the (SWORD OF THE SPIRIT), which is the word of God.
